The global protest movement against rape and forcing women to appear “moral” for the sake of rapists is coming to SA’s major cities.
slutwalk
"You know, I think we're beating around the bush here. I've been told I'm not supposed to say this. However, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised."
With these words Canadian police constable Michael Sanguinetti unleashed the kind of fury nobody wants to encounter: that of the woman scorned. Hot on the heels of his comments, given at a York university safety forum, Sonya Barnett and Heather Jarvis organised the first "Slutwalk", a protest movement reeling against the impression that sometimes women "ask for it".
Hearing about the ‘slut walk”, I thought it was saying that it is okay for women to be promiscuous, because of the word “slut” .
I support this march because every woman has a right to wear what ever they want to wear.
No man has a right to touch or sexually harass a woman.

colourism >< DARK SKIN VERSUS LIGHT SKIN
In general, people with ancestors from tropical regions and higher latitudes (who have were exposed to greater ultraviolet radiation) have darker skin than people with ancestors from middle latitudes. This is far from a hard and fast rule, however, because many light-skinned groups have managed to survive the equator through social adaptation. The same can be said of dark-skinned groups living at subtropical and temperate latitudes.
This started in the days of slavery. Back when blacks were divided into two parts light nigger and dark nigger. The light nigger was closer to white,so the only thing acceptable for the white man was that a light skin black person was that they worked inside. While light skinned individual worked inside of the plantation, cooking for the master, cleaning the master's dirty clothes, and teaching the master's wife how to cook combread. The darker skin black person slave worked outside in the field, picking cotton, hanging laundry ,and help grow the crops. The dark skin was treated like nothing while the light skin (although a black person) was treated better and worshiped secretly by the master/boss as she became master's secret mistress.
The have been several studies done on race relations over the years. The most memorable of these involved children playing with games, the black child was asked which doll they prefered to play with the black doll or the white one, shockingly enough the black child chose the white doll. Black people have a long history of being taught that if you were dark skin you are inferior.

SOCIAL MEDIA VERSUS TRADITIONAL MEDIA
Im 21 years old, PR student. I dont read newspapers, as much as I should, I browse through my favourite magazines now and then, because I dont have time and the time I have is whereby Im texting on my phone, because Im on facebook, twitter, mxit or watching some funny videos on youtube. I barely watch television, because the only time I watch tv, is when I watch soapies and comedies or when my phone battery is low and Im charging it.
Sometimes its even hard to study for my tests or do my assignments at school, because facebook will always be ringing in my mind especially when Im at university and suppose to do my school work.
Im curious which media will last and which one will fade? or does it depend on the generations?
Will the newspapers , magazines, our parents read fade with their age or generation or will the social network , which generation X which is the people from 80's to downard survive?
Check my next post where I will discuss this topic.....*watch the space*
SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is fastest vehicle of communocation, its like a wild pigeon that flys 280km/hr. Social media which contains social networks like facebook, twitter, linked in, My Space etc. Every company raced into having a facebook, twitter page, because it has the most influence and many people around the world are connecting and chatting through this social mediums.
Twitter is another social media which gives companies a chance to follow one another and to see what their competition is doing especially the PR Consultancies of Cape Town, its what they are doing now.
Social Media has four I's (Involvement, Interaction, Intimacy and Influence).
In all this Public Relations is moving from reactive to proactive to interactive,
meaning that Managers will be able to hear about events affecting their organisation immediately and they will be able to respond it. In this manner they have the power to correct all communication pollution, especially if they have someone whos constantly monitoring social media, like Virgin Mobile does and Bush Radio 89.5FM.
And another important factor that PR Managers should do is to measure social media to see if it has positive or negative impact regarding your organisation. And check if it adds value and what value does it add to your organisation. The other important factor is that by measuring social media , you are able to measure the company's brand or corporate reputation and so on.
Social media its a must have thing right now, if your organisation wants to stay on top of communication trends, and social media can bring traffic to your website, especially if you as the PR Manager, you must be able to use social media very effectively.
At the end of the day, it needs to be clear from the outset, what we want to achieve and how are we going to achieve it.
Social Media is an additional tool an organisation communicattion strategy.

NEW BLOG.....NEW ME....NEW LIFE
Life is a very strange thing, I remember starting my first blog in 2009, when I was doing my first year in Public Relations Management (PR), and then I didnt know what a blog is, or what it must contain in terms of content , in honest truth I was clueless. Now its three years down the line and Im doing my third year in PR still, and things have changed because I now am sitting at the Newsroom, at Bush Radio 89.5FM, where Im a PR intern.
This is my second blog and is called "NEW LIFE" meaning it is my life now, in the 20's and its about all things containing life that affect me as an individual, growing up in this fast pace world that is full of mystery and more mystery.
